50 YEARS OF TRADITION AND STILL GOING STRONG
My Dad, Frank Planeta started our shop in 1950. He took it from supplying the local trout
fishermen and branched out to deep-sea fishing. He had a great way with people and
lived by his motto, "they aren't customers, they're friends". My Mom, Margaret worked
in the shop making it a family business while staying active in the community. My Dad
always told me that someday I would have to carry on the tradition. So now it's my turn
to grow the business. The young fishermen and women that helped build the business
back then now bring their grandchildren in. You are reading this on today's modern
technology of the Internet but we're still grounded in traditional service as well. Yes, we
have our own chat room but it's actually IN the store. The wood stove is roaring in the
fall and winter inviting friends and customers to swap stories about the one that got away.
Some just come in to browse and dream of spring and summer, others just to say "hi".
The coffee is always on.
My wife Barbara and I hope to carry on the many traditions my father started for many
years to come. One of our favorite times is Opening Day (3rd Saturday in April). Old
friends, new customers and plenty of fish tales keep us going all day. It's like "Old
Home Week" and we wouldn't have it any other way.
